Birdwatching Tours

A flightseeing tour of Alaska is a great way to see this gorgeous state.  From the air you'll be in awe of the giant glaciers, meandering rivers and mountains that never seem to end.  You can go on a flightseeing tour from almost anywhere.  Make reservations ahead of time if you plan on taking a tour from a popular area.  Alaska is so huge that flying is the best way to see everything since there aren't enough roadways to travel on.  You don't need to worry about the operators of a flightseeing tour being amateur because they are serious professionals.  

Harding Ice Field is described as one of the most beautiful flights in the world.  They fly you over Skilak Lake then up to the Skilak glacier to the Harding Ice Field.  If the weather is good, they cross the ice fields and come down into the Kenai Fjords.  Kenai Fjords is one of the top 10 wonders of the world.  On the trip back they travel through the Renai mountains where you can see a variety of wildlife.  If your preference is viewing wildlife there is a wildlife viewing flight in a plane called a Super Cub.  An advantage of this plane is it drives slow and is quieter than a larger plane.  

Another interest you might have is seeing glaciers, which are rivers of ice.  There are at least 100,000 glaciers in Alaska.  An Alaskan bush plane will take you over mountains where you can get a good view of the glaciers and fields of ice.  A bush plane can land on a glacier if you want to ski or if you rather paddle a kayak they can also land in a glacier fed fresh water lake.  One area that is heavily glaciated is Wrangell-St.Elias.  A flightseeing tour is the best way to view how limitless the icefields are.  The largest subpolar icefield called Bagley Ice Field.  Icefields are a sizable area of interconnected valley glaciers.  The higher peaks ascend out of the mountain tops and aren't covered by land ice.  You will see many mountains all around you on this tour.  Most of them are unclimbed and unskied but amazingly that are skier friendly.  Wrangell, St.  Elias, Chugach and the eastern part of the Alaskan range are the four major mountain ranges.  There is also a glacier called Malaspina Glacier that is larger than Rhode Island 

There is a place called Trail Ridge Air, Incorporated, that offers flightseeing packages.  If you only have an hour to spare, you can see Anchorage and the wilderness.  For one and a half hours, you can choose to view mountain scenery that is strikingly breathtaking along with alpine glaciers.  You'll also see Mountain Goats and Dall sheep.  There is also a two hour glacier and wildlife tour and a three hour McKinley tour.  Custom flightseeing charters are also available where you can choose exactly where you want to go.  Take your camera along so you can treasure and enjoy the wonderful memories from visiting the magnificent state of Alaska.
